Dec. 9, 2013 at 2:55 PM

SCHONTAL, Switzerland, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Police in Switzerland said they arrested a drunken driving suspect found driving through a tunnel that has yet to open for public use.

Investigators said the 50-year-old man was pulled over just after 1 a.m. Sunday while driving in a tunnel section of the H2 highway in Schontal that is not scheduled to open for public use until later this week, TheLocal.ch reported Monday.

Police said the man was unable to explain how he ended up in the closed-off tunnel and his blood alcohol level was measured at more than twice the legal limit for driving.

The man was arrested on drunken driving charges. He faces a fine and a months-long suspension of his driver's license if convicted.
