Dec. 6, 2013 at 12:58 PM

ROME, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Authorities in Rome said they were seeking a runaway elephant that escaped from a circus in the city Friday morning.

Police said the elephant took a powder from the Amedeo Orfei circus, which has been in the city for about a week, and was last spotted late Friday morning near an exit ramp for the Grande Raccordo Anulare highway, which circles the city, ANSA reported Friday.

Details of the elephants escape were not immediately available.
