LONDON, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- The city of Liverpool, England, and local businesses are asking for help setting a world record for Christmas sweater pictures on social media sites.

The City Central Business Improvement District and Commercial District Business Improvement District, groups sponsored by the city government and local businesses, are asking Internet users to don their Christmas sweaters and post pictures to social media sites using the hashtag #LpoolXmasJumpers, the Liverpool Echo reported Friday.

The organizers said the attempt will set a world record if at least 5,000 pictures are posted by Jan. 5.

The groups are also asking participants and observers to donate $1.64 each to the Mission Christmas charity, which provides presents to underprivileged children.
