Store thanks girl, 5, for 'adorable' apology letter

CAMBRIDGE, England, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- A British department store manager said Twitter helped him find a 5-year-old who mailed an apology and payment for breaking a Christmas decoration.

Dominic Joyce, manager of the John Lewis store in Cambridge, said he wanted to find the girl, who signed her note "Faith," to thank her for the "adorable gesture" of mailing an apology letter and a $3.27 payment for the Christmas decoration she broke while visiting the store, the Mirror reported Thursday.

"To John Lewis Cambridge. I'm sorry I broke a Christmas bauble on Saturday. It cost 2 pounds. Here is the money for it. Sorry again, Faith, age 5," the letter read.

Joyce said he began a Twitter campaign using the hashtag "#findfaith" to thank the girl for her "adorable gesture."

"We didn't have much to go on -- just a first name, a Cambridge postmark and what might be a self-portrait," he said. "We get lots of nice letters but nothing quite as special as this."

The store said officials were able to speak to the girl's parents Thursday morning to share their thanks.
