EL PASO, Texas, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said officers at a Texas border crossing helped deliver a Thanksgiving Day baby.

The agency said the 17-year-old mother approached officers at the Del Norte Bridge pedestrian crossing in El Paso around 5 a.m. Thursday and asked them to call an ambulance because she was in labor, the El Paso Times reported Tuesday.

The officers took the teenager into an office to wait for paramedics, but the baby arrived before the ambulance.

Two officers tied off the newborn's umbilical cord and wrapped the infant in jackets and blankets until responders arrived.

The mother, a U.S. citizen, and her newborn child were taken to a local hospital.
