Steven Lippard, 7, of Loxahatchee was playing outside Saturday when he was struck by small stones that left a gash in his head requiring three staples, WPEC-TV, West Palm Beach, reported Wednesday.
The boy and his father, Wayne Lippard, took some of the small stones to Florida Atlantic University, where testing indicated they were metallic. The test results supports the family's theory that the rocks came from a meteorite.
Further chemical tests can prove whether the stones came from space, experts said.
Astronomer Phil Plait said the odds of being hit by a meteorite are so slim they are nearly impossible to calculate.
