CIAT, the company that sent Quynh to the contest, blamed the misspelling on pageant organizers. The group said other women, including those representing Ireland and Dominica, were given ribbons that misspelled their country names as well.

Mrs. World 2013's organizing board sent an apology letter to the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism, saying no offense was intended.

Tran Thi Quynh also apologized to the ministry.

"As a Vietnamese, I admitted that this was because of my carelessness. This is a lesson that will be with me for the rest of my life, a mistake that I will never make again," Quynh wrote.
