STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- A Swedish bartender accused of refusing to serve four men because of their skin color said the men were refused service because they were "unusually pleasant."

Stockholm police said they were called to the pub in September by four men visiting from another country and the men told officers they were refused service by waiters and the head bartender due to their dark skin colors, The Local.se reported Thursday.

Police confirmed the men were not intoxicated when they walked into the establishment, but the head bartender said he and the waiters assumed the group must be drunk or on drugs because they were "unusually pleasant."

Waiters agreed the men were suspiciously nice.

"One of the men began waving with his arms," one waiter said. "[He] said 'Hello my friend, is all well with you?'"

Police said the incident is being investigated.
