Armored car drops $223,600 cash

HARVEY, La., Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Authorities in Louisiana said a probation officer leaving her office found $223,600 cash that fell from a passing armored car.

Pam Laborde, spokeswoman for the state Department of Public Safety and Corrections, said the bag of $20 and $100 bills fell from the armored car Wednesday after it left the Boomtown Casino in Harvey, The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported Thursday.

The clear plastic bag was noticed by Officer Jessica Luebke as she was leaving the state probation department's Jefferson District office about 12:30 p.m. and she contacted the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

The cash was secured by Luebke and her supervisor, Kewana Ceasor, while waiting for deputies.

Department District Administrator Jon Reeves said an armored car soon drove up and the crew said they were searching for a bag of cash they lost after leaving Boomtown, about 4.5 miles away.

Laborde said the Sheriff's Office returned the money to the crew of the armored car and it was deposited at Capital One bank.

Reeves said it was a good thing the money was found by a law enforcement officer.

"It would have caused a lot of trouble if somebody else had found it," he said.
