RENO, Nev., Nov. 20 (UPI) -- A U.S. Navy sailor returned home to a Nevada airport following an 11-month deployment and married his high school sweetheart inside the hub.
Seaman Dylan Ruffer, 19, was greeted just before midnight Monday at Reno-Tahoe International Airport by his girlfriend, Madison Meinhardt, 19, who was wearing a white gown, and the couple followed through on their plan to marry at the airport during the early moments of Tuesday morning, ABC News reported.
The airport allowed the wedding party to decorate the arrivals terminal with a trellis of flowers and white fabric for the ceremony, which featured Ruffer's arrival being announced via loudspeaker.
"It's definitely more than we could have ever asked for," Meinhardt said. "We were expecting a wedding in the corner maybe, but this is amazing."
Brian Kulpin, spokesman for the Reno-Tahoe Airport, said the airport was happy to host the ceremony.
"I don't think we could have imagined how beautiful the ceremony was going to be," he said. "It was beyond our expectations."
Ruffer, who spent much of his 11-month deployment aboard the USS Gravely off the coast of Syria, has six days with his bride before he has to report for duty.
