Embreeville Trooper Wesley Foster said William Michael Pusey, 33, allegedly stole the 2005 Case 580 Super M backhoe around 2 p.m. Nov. 10 in East Whiteland Township and he drove the piece of heavy equipment about 30 miles to a scrap yard in Philadelphia, an estimated 2.5-hour drive in the slow-moving backhoe, Lancaster (Pa.) Online reported.
The trooper said Pusey intended to sell the backhoe.
"He already had a buyer lined up for it," Foster said. "He had heard someone was looking for one."
Foster said police and the owner of the backhoe used a GPS tracking device to find the construction vehicle Nov. 11.
Pusey was arrested on an outstanding theft warrant and police said they are seeking an additional theft charge for the backhoe incident.
