COVENTRY, England, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Officials in a British city distributed 5,000 flyers to explain to residents how best to put their trash bins at the side of the road for pickup.

Andrew Walster of the Coventry City Council's city services department said the leaflets were distributed to ensure the bins are placed the correct way to prevent workers from suffering injuries from having to manually pick up trash from bins left facing the wrong direction, The Mirror reported Monday.

"It's not about saving time," Walster said. "The bigger issue we have is that we are going back to the days of black bin bags and manual handling issues. If we have 200 bins the wrong way around on a street we reintroduce the manual handling aspect of bin collection and we could have lots of people with musculoskeletal problems."

However, some residents said they were upset the council spent a reported $365 printing the flyers.

"With the council announcing itself to be in the worst financial situation ever, making vast numbers redundant and cutting back vital public services, we are then treated to this news," resident Dave Evans said.

"These leaflets cost money, designing them costs money and a whole team delivering them costs money -- how is this value for my money?" he said.
