WAJIR, Kenya, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- Residents of a Kenyan village said they chased down and captured a pair of cheetahs accused of killing 15 goats.

Nur Osman Hassan, a resident of a village near Wajir town in northeast Kenya, said the cheetahs had been killing his goats one-by-one over the course of several weeks, the BBC reported Friday.

Hassan said he gathered three young people to help him catch the speedy cats after he spotted the cheetahs killing another of his goats. He said they waited until the sun was high in the sky and the cheetahs were exhausted from running.

"I called some youths and we ran after them," he said. "We caught them and we brought them to the local authorities."

The cheetahs were turned over to the Kenya Wildlife Service.

Hassan said he is hoping to be compensated by the government for his slain livestock.

"I need compensation from them because the cheetahs killed most of my goats," he said.
