Bill Maher welcomed Anthony Weiner to his HBO show on Friday, and the two got to talking about the moment during the Red Sox World Series parade when the team brought the championship trophy to the Boston Marathon finish line in an attempt to honor the victims of the marathon bombing.
Somehow, the Real Time host was able to find something negative to say about Sox players Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Jonny Gomes placing the trophy on the finish line and putting a "Boston Strong 617" jersey on the trophy while "God Bless America" was sung.
"I also saw, so the Red Sox won the World Series, congratulations Red Sox," Maher said. "So the parade, they go to the place where the marathon bombing took place, they put the World Series statue there and they sing God Bless America and they say 'Boston strong' and they chant 'USA,' you know. It was again, a bad day, three people died, that's terrible. More were maimed, that's horrible, but unfortunately that happens every day, in car accidents and everything else. I mean, your city was not leveled by Godzilla."
Somehow Weiner, the same "Carlos Danger" who has been the butt of more jokes than Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber combined over the last year, came out looking good.
"I don't know... such a nice moment, what's wrong with you?" Weiner replied.
He wasn't the only one asking that question.
@HBO Fire Bill Maher for comments he made about the Boston Marathon!— Patty Cusack (@tankable) November 14, 2013
@billmaher, love you, but disappointed by boston marathon comments. Parade route was where bombs were, meant a lot to our city.....— Jessica Britt (@jmacbritt) November 14, 2013
Bill Maher is a tool. Bostonians should blacklist that jerk for what he said about the Boston Marathon bombing. So rude and disrespectful.— Andy Bedingfield (@aNdY_Be3) November 14, 2013
