CHICAGO, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- The Chicago Transit Authority is trying to track down a woman believed to have dumped a 2-foot alligator at O'Hare International Airport.

The alligator, now in the care of the Chicago Herpetological Society, was discovered under an escalator in Terminal 3. The CTA said security cameras captured images of what is almost certainly the same animal in the hands of a woman passenger on the Blue Line, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.

Security cameras show the woman boarded a train at Pulaski station just after 1 a.m. Nov. 1 and got off -- with the alligator -- at O'Hare, CTA spokeswoman Tammy Chase said. At 2:44 a.m., she was back at the O'Hare station with no alligator in sight.

On-board cameras got images of the woman displaying the alligator to other passengers, Chase said.

Chase said the woman could face a misdemeanor cruelty to animals charge or a possible fine of $1,000 for dumping the alligator.
