Sam Sianis, owner of the tavern below North Michigan Avenue, said the business has been in the same place since it was founded in 1964 and he will not move it despite plans to replace the Realtor Building, located above the tavern, with a building and plaza space, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.
The construction would likely displace the Billy Goat Tavern, at least temporarily, but Sianis said he does not want to move.
"I want to stay here," Sianis said. "I've been here for almost 50 years. Like the Realtors, I'm part of Michigan Avenue."
"Nothing has changed since 1964," Sianis said. "Nothing has changed from the time we opened up to now."
