Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- A Utah man who served as a ball boy for the Utah Jazz in 1997 said he is selling the shoes Michael Jordan gave him for applesauce during the famous "flu game." Preston Truman, who turned 18 years old during the 1996 season, said he fetched applesauce on Jordan's request before a regular season game in November and made sure he had applesauce ready when Jordan was again in Utah to play games 3, 4 and 5 of the playoffs in June 1997, The Salt Lake Tribune reported Monday. Advertisement Truman said he supplied Jordan with applesauce during Game 5, what would become Jordan's famous "flu game" when he led the Bulls to victory despite a severe case of food poisoning. Jordan signed the size-13 Nike Air Jordan shoes he wore during the game and presented them to Truman at the end of the night. Truman said he was offered $11,000 for the shoes the next year, but he decided to keep them locked away in a safety deposit box. Truman said he is now planning to sell the shoes in an auction beginning next week at Grey Flannel Auctions. Advertisement "I'm 35, and 40's just right around the corner, and it seems like time goes by faster the older you get," he said. "Maybe it's just time to get those things out there."
