DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said a woman turned in a purse found floating in the ocean with $13,000 cash inside.

Daytona Beach police said Darlene Curley of Tennessee, who was staying at the Super 8 Motel in Daytona Beach during the weekend, found the purse floating Sunday morning and turned it over to Beach Safety officers, who discovered it contained a bank bag with $13,000 cash as well as several thousand dollars worth of jewelry, WESH-TV, Orlando, reported Tuesday.

Curley said she and her daughter spotted the purse, along with shoes and towels, while walking around 7 a.m.

"We were worried someone might have drowned or something could have happened to them on the beach," she said.

Police said they were able to return the bag and its contents to its rightful owner, a woman who lost it while visiting the beach Saturday night.
