ATLANTA, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- The mascot for the Atlanta Falcons apologized for an "insensitive" tweet about suicide after participating in a suicide prevention walk.
The mascot, Freddie Falcon, took to his official Twitter account Sunday following his team's 34-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers and posted, "Had a good time at the #ood suicide prevention walk today. I may need to go back if our season continues the way it is," The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday.
The mascot posted an apology about 3 hours later.
"I am truly sorry for my inappropriate and insensitive tweet. It was in poor taste," he tweeted.
A representative for the walk's sponsor, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, said suicide is nothing to joke about.
"For the more than 1,000 survivors of suicide loss who participated in today's walk, suicide prevention is no laughing matter. We hope everyone who joined us today, including Freddie, support our vision for a world without suicide," the representative said.
