COPPERAS COVE, Texas, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- A Texas man was detained in a jail under an ordinance allowing for the arrest of people with overdue library books.

Police in Copperas Cove said Jory Enck was arrested Wednesday and jailed for a time before eventually being released for violating the ordinance that allows the arrest of people who do not return their library books after more than 90 days, KWTX, Waco, reported Friday.

Court documents accuse Enck of checking out a GED study guide in 2010 that was never returned. The documents said Enck did not respond to the library's attempts to contact him about the overdue item.

KWTX said the book was returned to the library shelves the day after the arrest.
