Investigators said an officer spotted Cristina Crespo, 26, of Sterling Heights, lying on the sidewalk outside the Mojave Cantina in Clawson around 9 p.m. Saturday and another woman helped her stand up and walk into the bar, The (Royal Oak, Mich.) Daily Tribune reported Wednesday.
"The officer went into the bar to check on her and found her sitting outside behind the cantina," Clawson Police Lt. Scott Sarvello said.
The woman told the officer her boyfriend was inside the bar.
"She said they were there for a pub crawl and she was dressed up as an abusive wife," Sarvello said.
The officer found the boyfriend, who was dressed as an abused husband. He told police the couple had a sober designated driver who could take them home. The boyfriend went outside the building to find Crespo and the officer soon heard shouting coming from their direction.
"The suspect was screaming and repeatedly hitting the boyfriend with her purse," Sarvello said. "The officer intervened and she continued to be loud and belligerent and was detained."
Police said witnesses told them Crespo had been seen striking her boyfriend at the bar prior to the officer's arrival.
"It's ironic that she went out dressed up as an abuser and that's what she ended up as," Sarvello said.
Crespo was arrested on a domestic violence charge and released after posting $5,000 bail. She was ordered to stay away from alcoholic beverages and not to have any contact with her boyfriend.
