ISLE AUX MORTS, Newfoundland, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- A Newfoundland deputy mayor who came up with the idea for Maple Moose flavored potato chips won about $50,000 from snack maker Lays.

Tyler LeFrense, deputy mayor of Isle aux Morts, won the cash in Lays' "Do Us a Flavor" contest, beating other flavor ideas including Creamy Garlic Caesar, Grilled Cheese and Ketchup, and Perogy Platter, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Thursday.

LeFrense said the idea originated when he was making maple ham and decided to try the same method with moose meat.

"Everybody's got a different preference and different likes and dislikes kind of thing, but other than that I'm getting a lot of good feedback and a lot of support from the community, from the province, and right across Canada for that matter, actually," he said.

LeFrense, who will also receive 1 percent of money from sales of the flavor for as long as the snack chips remain on the shelves, said he has not yet decided what to do with his money.
