Michigan transport workers made monster from construction barrels

BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP, Mich., Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Workers at a Michigan Department of Transportation garage are showing how scary road construction can be with a monster sculpted from construction barrels.

Mark Sweeney, manager of the Michigan Department of Transportation's Brighton Township maintenance garage, said the 9-foot-tall monster sculpture made from retired construction barrels was built about four years ago and workers bring it out each fall for Halloween, Gannett Michigan reported Wednesday.

"Some of the guys at the garage are pretty creative. They created it out of some spare barrels that were going to be thrown out," Sweeney said. "Maintenance people can often be quite creative."

Sweeney said the idea came from former worker Terri Mears and maintenance man Mike Golip oversaw its creation.
