BOSTON, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Boston police said a bus driver rescued a bomb disposal robot that fell from the back of a bomb squad truck by notifying authorities.

The Boston Police Department said a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority bus driver saw the robot fall from back the truck Tuesday and pulled over to the side of the road to contact authorities, the Boston Herald reported Wednesday.

"It appears the rear door of one of the department's bomb squad trucks popped open when it hit a pothole or bump on Massachusetts Avenue this morning. One of the robots fell out. The truck has been taken out of service to check the locking mechanism. The robot was tested and is not damaged," Boston police spokeswoman Cheryl Fiandaca said.

"We are appreciative that a quick-thinking MBTA bus driver saw the incident happen and called the Transit Police. The department got the equipment back within minutes," she said.

MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said the driver kept an eye on the robot until police arrived and then continued on his route with his passengers.
