LYNCHBURG, Va., Oct. 15 (UPI) -- A group of Virginia veterans and citizens are offering a $3,000 reward for the return of a bronze bayonet stolen from a statue at a World War I memorial.

A $1,000 reward for the return of the bayonet, which was taken from the "Listening Post" statue at the World War I memorial in Lynchburg earlier in October, was put forward last week, and two more $1,000 rewards were announced this week, The News & Advance, Lynchburg, reported Tuesday.

The donors said the rewards will go to anyone who can return the bayonet and identify the person who took it from the statue.

The incident marked the second time the bayonet has been stolen from the statue in as many years.
