Smithfield Fast Lube co-owner Glen Schlickenmeyer sought a way to promote his business, and with the help of store publicist Betty Thomas, designed the container to replicate a bottle of motor oil, the (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot reported Thursday.
Thomas was responsible for marketing Smithfield Foods' massive ham biscuit, designated as the world's biggest ham biscuit, 8 feet wide and 2,200 pounds in weight, in 2003, the newspaper said.
The custom-fabricated metal bottle, full of motor oil and tapped regularly during customers' oil changes, is kept on display in a service bay. It was unveiled in April, the details were sent to Guinness in May, and confirmation of the honor of possessing "the world's biggest bottle of motor oil" arrived from Guinness Wednesday, Schlickenmeyer said.
