ATLANTA, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- A Georgia baby was born in the back of an ambulance to her EMT mother with the help of her paramedic father.

Tinsley Stephens said she awoke in labor about 4 a.m. Sunday and decided to drive from her Acworth home to Northside Hospital in Atlanta for the birth of her son, who was not due for another week, WSB-TV, Atlanta, reported Thursday.

Stephens said she decided she was not going to make it all the way to the hospital on her own, so she drove to the ambulance station where her husband, Danny, works as a paramedic.

The couple got into an ambulance and enlisted an EMT to drive to the hospital.

"My water broke about 2 minutes down the road," Tinsley said.

The couple said their son, Owen Stephens, was born before they reached the emergency room.

The parents said the baby was blue and had his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck.

Danny Stephens cut the cord with a scalpel.

"It was pretty scary. I was terrified. My husband kind of went into professional mode and took care of business," the mother said.
