PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla., Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said a man who called authorities to report a stolen gun wound up arrested for being a convicted felon in possession of firearms.
The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office said Jimmy Dewayne Whipple, 47, of Port Charlotte called authorities Tuesday to report a stolen gun and deputies soon determined he was a convicted felon and therefore barred from possessing firearms, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Thursday.
Deputies said they discovered a substance that tested positive for marijuana in Whipple's home as well as paraphernalia including a grinder and a smoking pipe. They also discovered a prescription bottle containing pills for which Whipple did not have a prescription.
Whipple was arrested on charges including possession of firearms by a convicted felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and possession of drugs without a prescription.
