GARDEN CITY, Utah, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- A Utah judge ruled a man who blamed his 111-mph police chase on an upset stomach will spend seven days in jail.

First District Judge Thomas Willmore sentenced Jeffrey Laub, 39, of Garden City, to concurrent jail sentences of one year in jail for evading police and six months for driving while impaired, The Herald Journal, Logan, Utah, reported Wednesday.

All but seven days of the jail sentence were suspended by the judge.

Police said Laub failed to stop when he was seen speeding through Logan Canyon and he led police on a chase that reached 111 mph.

Laub told the judge he had an upset stomach and was trying to reach a rest stop at the summit of the canyon. However, Willmore said Laub had passed a number of outhouses before and during the chase.

"That is one of the worst stories I have ever heard," Willmore said Monday in court.

Laub pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts of failure to stop and impaired driving in April as part of a deal that dismissed charges of reckless driving, speeding and driving with an open container of alcohol.
