NAHANT, Mass., Oct. 8 (UPI) -- A Massachusetts boy said his teacher laughed when he showed her the absence excuse his mother wrote to explain his "Red Sox fever."

Kerri McKinnon of Nahant said she wanted to take her son, Brian, to a Red Sox game last week so she wrote a letter explaining the situation to his teacher, WHDH-TV, Boston, reported Tuesday.

"I said 'allow Brian to be excused, he has a case of Red Sox fever and Fenway is the only cure,'" McKinnon said.

Brian said his teacher laughed when she read the note.
