Petco: Keep 'fur kids' safe during zombie apocalypse

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Petco, headquartered in San Diego, is celebrating Halloween by encouraging pet owners to include their "fur kids" in any zombie survival plan.

"Although the predicted zombie apocalypse is most likely unfounded, if it is indeed fact and not fiction, it can't hurt for parents to prepare on behalf of their fur kids as well," the company said.

The company said pet owners should pack survival gear, including both human food and pet food, in a Bison Pet Scamper Dog Pack that a dog can easily carry out of the house in the event of a zombie attack. The store said to make sure dogs own a Petco ghoul or skeleton costume to get away in disguise.

Petco also said to make sure pets are safely restrained in doggy seatbelts, car harnesses or crates while fleeing the undead in a car and warned owners to make sure their pets get regular exercise and food puzzles to keep them physically and mentally fit.

The store said pets will also need heavy-duty leashes to keep them close to their owners and swaddling Thundershirts to help keep them calm.
