Groom called bomb hoax on own wedding to hide venue mistake

LIVERPOOL, England, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- A British man admitted in court to calling in a bomb hoax on his wedding day so his bride wouldn't discover his failure to book the venue.

Panicked Neil McArdle, 36, admitted Friday in court to calling in a bomb threat to St. George's Hall in Liverpool, England, on the morning of April 24, the day of his planned wedding, the Liverpool Echo reported Friday.

Police said McArdle, whose bride arrived at the venue to find it had been evacuated and was surrounded by police, called in the hoax because he discovered he had not filed the correct forms to officially book the hall.

McArdle was arrested later in the day and confessed his actions to officers, police said.

McArdle, who is still together with fiance Amy Williams but has yet to marry, faces jail when he is sentenced later this month.
