New Hampshire man's ashes lost in the mail

NORTHWOOD, N.H., Oct. 2 (UPI) -- A New Hampshire woman said two urns containing her husband's ashes were lost in the mail when she tried to send them to her late spouse's daughter.

Allison Kelley said her husband, Chuck, died at the age of 58 in August and she mailed the urns containing his ashes to the Chuck's daughter in Florida so the remains could be spread at his favorite Florida Keys fishing spot, WMUR-TV, Manchester, N.H., reported Wednesday.

"He told me that was heaven to him and when he died he wanted his ashes put there," Kelley said.

However, the package had been opened when it arrived at his daughter's home and the two bubble-wrap packed urns were missing. The box only contained some flannel shirts when Chuck's daughter received it.

"I just felt like I lost him all over again," Kelley said.

She said Chuck's daughter has been trying to comfort her.

"She keeps on reminding me that her dad's in heaven and these ashes are just ashes. But I think to really move on we need to do what he wanted," Kelley said.

Kelley said she is hoping spreading the story will help the urns return to the family.

"I'm hoping it's sitting on someone's desk and they just don't know who it belongs to," she said.
