Bourdain repeatedly insulted the "world famous" Frito pies at a Five and Dime store in downtown Santa Fe during a CNN special aired Monday, KRQE-TV, Albuquerque, reported Tuesday.
"It feels like you're holding warm crap in a bag," Bourdain said in the special.
Workers at the store took issue with Bourdain's claim that "canned Hormel chili" was part of the recipe.
Store manager Lorraine Chavez said she has been making the chili from scratch every day for the past 15 years.
"I mean, it's a basic recipe," Chavez said. "I've been doing it so long."
A publicist for Bourdain apologized for the error and said it would be edited out of future broadcasts.
