Blogger: Packers fans should steer clear of 'Packer Pride Hot Dog'

GREEN BAY, Wis., Sept. 30 (UPI) -- A dietitian and health blogger recommended fans of the Green Bay Packers look for healthier food options at games.

Rachel Berman, who blogs about health for About.com, cited several offerings from Lambeau stadium in her roundup of some of the "most outrageous offerings at football stadiums all over the country," the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Monday.

"Lambeau Field serves up the Packer Pride Hot Dog: a foot-long hot dog cooked inside a foot-long bratwurst, all of which is completely wrapped in bacon and served on a pretzel bun -- at an estimated 1,442 calories, 102 grams of fat [and] 4,037 milligrams sodium," Berman wrote.

Berman told the Journal Sentinel in an email that health-conscious fans should look for other options.

"Look for healthier options at football stadiums like grilled chicken sandwiches, fruit salad, and even a normal-sized hot dog without chili or cheese," she wrote. "Remember, foods like salads and wraps are not always the healthiest choices. Wraps can be stuffed with fried chicken and cheese, and salads are topped with bacon bits and ranch dressing, which pack in saturated fat and calories. Above all, pay attention to portion sizes and when in doubt, split a treat with a family member or friend."
