Motorists using Apple maps drive onto Alaska airport runway

Sept. 25, 2013 at 3:48 PM

FAIRBANKS, Alaska, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Apple has promised to fix the built-in iPhone map app after two drivers in three weeks ended up on the main runway of an Alaska airport.

The company said the maps would be corrected by Wednesday after officials at the Fairbanks International Airport said two motorists using the app drove onto Taxiway Bravo and motored across the main runway within three weeks, the Alaska Dispatch reported Wednesday.

"These folks drove past several signs. They even drove past a gate. None of that cued them that they did something inappropriate," said Melissa Osborn, chief of operations at the Fairbanks airport.
