CLEVELAND, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- A Cleveland woman who marked her 109th birthday with a party at her church said she isn't sure if sweet potatoes have anything to do with her longevity.
Lessie Brown, who moved to Cleveland as a teenager in 1922, celebrated her birthday Sunday at Emmanuel Baptist Church with family and friends by her side, WJW-TV, Cleveland, reported Monday.
Brown said she isn't sure how she managed to live for so many years.
"Oh I don't know. A lot of them say it's because I ate a lot of sweet potatoes, but I don't think that's it. I don't know, God's will," she said.
Brown's family includes 24 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
"I'm just so thankful that God has really blessed us with my mother who is 109 years young today and I'm just so happy that the family is here too," daughter Vivian Hatcher said Sunday.
