Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe COLUMBIA, S.C., Sept. 23 (UPI) -- The sole winner of last week's $400 million Powerball jackpot is a man from the Columbia, S.C., area who wants to stay anonymous, lottery officials said Monday. Lottery officials said in a release the mystery man said he had no one to share his good news with when he learned he had won so he just told his small dog who was standing in the kitchen with him, WIS-TV, Columbia, reported. Advertisement The man told lottery officials he had only played the lottery once before, the TV station said. He said he stopped in at a Murphy Express branch in Lexington last Wednesday to get some hot dog buns but when he learned the store didn't have any he spent $20 on lottery tickets instead. He let the lottery computer pick his numbers. The man can take cash -- $134 million after $99 million in taxes is taken out -- or take an annuity paid over 29 years for $399.4 million. It wasn't known which option he's taking.
