82-year-old Italian man says wife's illness steered him back to crime

Sept. 16, 2013 at 8:12 PM   |   Comments

GENOA, Italy, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Police in Italy said an 82-year-old man arrested for breaking into a tourist's car told officers he went back to crime because of his wife's illness.

Genoa police said the man was caught breaking into the car Monday and told the arresting officers he needed money for his wife's illness and didn't know anything other than crime, ANSA reported Monday.

"I only know how to steal. That was my job. I'm broke and my wife is ill so I started stealing again," police quoted the man as saying. "I was forced into it."
