Manchester police said a citizen flagged down an officer around 10 p.m. Tuesday to report the presence of the snake and the officer called for backup and animal control officers to assist him with the capture, The Hartford (Conn.) Courant reported Wednesday.
The snake, estimated at about 4 feet long, was found to be a non-venomous white corn snake and was lured into a barrel. The snake was taken to a Bolton veterinarian and police said they are hoping the owner will come forward and claim the pet.
Officer Jay Wagner said the snake capture was unusual for Manchester police.
"I'm a cop 12 years and I haven't seen this one yet," Wagner said.
