The Oakland County Sheriff's Department said the street numbers of a Pontiac home slated for demolition were nailed to a neighboring vacant house, leading contractors to demolish the wrong house before knocking down the correct building, ABC News reported Wednesday.
Oakland County undersheriff Mike McCabe said police are still investigating the incident.
Mike Anderson, the owner of the incorrectly demolished house, said he is wondering whether the city owes him a new house.
The owner of the house intended to be demolished could not be reached for comment, officials said.
