Police: Man stuck in tree arrested on suspicion of robbery

Sept. 10, 2013 at 12:39 PM

NASSJO, Sweden, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Police in Sweden said a man who called for help getting out of a tree claimed to be the victim of a robbery, but was instead found to be a robbery suspect.

Investigators said the man called emergency services in the early hours Saturday in Nassjo and asked for help getting down from a tall tree, Swedish news agency TT reported Tuesday.

The man told police he fled up the tree to escape a robber, but officers said they had been tracking a robber in the area and sniffer dogs had lost the scent at the tree the man had been climbing. The objects stolen during the robbery were found to have been hidden in the tree with the man.

The man was arrested on suspicion of robbery.
