RAMSBOTTOM, England, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- About 2,000 enthusiasts descended on Ramsbottom, England, Monday to observe and compete in the official world Black Pudding Throwing Competition.

The annual event outside the town's Oaks Pub involves competitors who attempt to dislodge large Yorkshire puddings placed on a 20-foot high scaffold by throwing smaller puddings, about the size of hockey pucks, at them, the Bolton News said.

Huseyin Ozluk, 44, formerly of Turkey but now a Ramsbottom resident, won the 100-pound ($157) prize by dislodging six giant puddings from the platform. Ozluk also won the event in 2009. Tommy Hannaway, 11, of Fishpool won the children's category, knocking down five puddings from a 10-foot scaffold, the newspaper said.

The event, which commemorates the House of Lancaster's repelling of Yorkshire raiding armies during the War of the Roses in the 15th century, has been held since 1984.
