NAPLES, Italy, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- An Italian man who won an international pizza-making competition in Naples said his secret ingredient is his "passion and love" for what he does.

Davide Civitello, 29, owns a pizza shop in Naples, the birthplace of one of the world's most ubiquitous foods.

He beat out 500 competitors from 47 countries at the pizza-making contest. He's the first Napoleon to win in eight years, TheLocal.it said Friday.

Contestants were given 10 minutes to assemble and cook their pizza.

Civitello said he's been making pizza since he was 9 years old and knew from a young age it's what he wanted to do with his life.

"The secret for a delicious pizza is to have passion and love for what you do," he said. "I didn't expect to win and above all I'm so happy because as I always say, sacrifice brings rewards."
