Chicago man seeking soulmate advertises with freeway billboard

CHICAGO, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- A Chicago man who could afford to rent a freeway billboard in his bid to find a girlfriend says he isn't worried about attracting unwelcome gold diggers.

Gordon Engle told the New York Daily News he can spot them a mile away and has already culled the roster of respondents to 15-20 "solid" leads.

Engle said his very public "Let's Have Dinner" pitch is aimed at finding his perfect soul mate. The recently divorced 43-year-old said a billboard on the Stevenson Expressway isn't a lot different than meeting new people online, although it costs a lot more.

But, Engle said, finding a new wife was too important to pinch pennies and limit the number of potential applicants.

"You'll spend several thousand on education, a quarter-million on a house," he said. "Your significant other. You're going to go cheap on that?"
