The Tucumcari man, who did not want to give his name, said he constructed the outhouse and put up the sign a few weeks ago and he has no intention of taking it down, even if some people find it offensive, KOAT-TV, Albuquerque, reported Thursday.
"It's like watching TV. If you don't like what the hell you're watching, turn the channel," the man said. "I'm not even certain he even deserves that level of respect, but that's my opinion.
"That's my opinion ... and fortunately, that's one thing they haven't taken away from us ... is our right to our opinion," he said.
City Manager Doug Powers said he has not seen the sign, but he plans to visit to the outhouse to ensure it doesn't violate any city codes.
The report did not say whether the outhouse was functional, or merely decorative.
