SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Sept. 4 (UPI) -- A Missouri man whose sport-utility vehicle was stolen with his dog inside said he will hand over the title to the vehicle if the thieves return the canine.

Doug Clark of Springfield said his SUV was stolen in broad daylight Thursday while he was dropping off a broken trampoline frame at McCoy's Iron and Metal and his family's pug, Dugout, was inside the vehicle at the time, KYTV, Springfield, reported Wednesday.

Clark said the vehicle was running with the air conditioning on to keep Dugout cool while he was inside the business.

He said the thieves, a man and a woman, were caught on the business' security cameras. He said they had been the people in front of him in line.

"As she was collecting her money, the man actually walked out and he walked and hopped in my vehicle. She followed shortly. Of course I didn't know this; I was standing in the office," Clark said.

Clark said he will give the thieves the title to his vehicle if they bring Dugout back to the family.

"Absolutely, title stands. They bring me Dugout back, and I'll hand them the title," he said.
