The record fruit salad, created for the annual "welcome UMass Amherst Barbecue" beat the previous world record of 11,197 pounds set at Montreal's McGill University. Advertisement The fruit salad, about 8,000 pounds of which was distributed to barbecue guests, was created in a 4-foot-high, 15-foot diameter swimming pool by the school's Dining Services, with help from engineering professor Scott Civjan, WWLP-TV, Springfield, Mass., reported Tuesday.
