JACKSON, Miss., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Mississippi wildlife officials said two separate groups of hunters set state records during the weekend for large male and female alligators.
Ricky Flynt, the state's alligator program coordinator, said hunters Dustin Bockman, Ryan Bockman and Cole Landers caught a 13-foot male gator Sunday measuring 727 pounds, setting a weight record but falling two inches short of the length record, CBS News reported Tuesday.
The men caught the gator in the Mississippi River in Claiborne County, Flynt said.
A separate group, Ellisville hunters Brandon "Boo" Maskew and Allen Purvis, landed a female alligator Saturday measuring 10 feet long and weighing 295.3 pounds. The catch set length and weight records for a female gator in the state.
Mississippi's alligator season ends Sept. 9, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks said.
