Katrena Leonard of Gwinnett County said she thought there would be enough time for her husband, Terrance, to get her to the DeKalb Medical Center in Lithonia, but baby Kylie Rose Marie Leonard was born in the passenger seat as Terrance drove more than 80 mph on Highway 78, WSB-TV, Atlanta, reported Monday.
Leonard said she caught Kylie in the bottom of her dress and they arrived at the hospital about four minutes later.
"The nurses and everyone was down there, and they didn't believe the baby was there all of a sudden. They say, 'She's got the baby,'" Terrance Leonard said. "All Kylie was doing was just looking at her mom like, 'I'm here.'"
Dr. Fiona Blair, Kylie's pediatrician, said the girl was a healthy newborn.
"She looks awesome and had quite an eventful entry into the world, but she looks great," Blair said.
The couple said they felt blessed to have Kylie born healthy despite her birthing ordeal.
"We had a wild, wild ride," Katrena Leonard said.
